The most sensible area in the PPG Wave is the sequencer/arpeggiator 
part. If the sequencer memory is disorganised for some reason (dead 
battery, for instance), and isn't reinitialised before use, you should 
not try to play a sequence... it might wipe all your patches and then go 
belly-up. Also, setting the DIP switches on the back incorrectly and 
then starting the arpeggiator can lead to disaster.

If you go today's usual route (use a MIDI sequencer program on a 
computer), the Waves are quite stable. Just don't try to send 3000 MIDI 
bytes per second, this would be too much for the processor.
