Foolish question, but.....are there any spaces or other non-alphanumeric
characters in the project's filepath?

It wasn't Xilinx tools (but another Giant Gorilla of the 'design
automation' world) that went selectively batsh*t when I last ran into
the problem a couple of years ago, but......
